Personal Statement from the Founder of the Pelman Institute.
NEW YEAR’S MESSAGE.
THE LONDON TIMES, JANUARY 02, 1922.
The following statement has been issued from the Pelman Institute:—Pelman House, Bloomsbury, St., London, WCI
To the Readers of the Times:
With the opening of the New Year I am taking the opportunity of making an announcement regarding the future of Pelmanism and our plans for 1922.
I have long realized with Mr. H.G. Wells that “our lives in strength, in realized capacity, in achievement, and happiness are perhaps, 20 per cent. or 30 per cent. of what they ought to be,” and that “if we could… get to work upon this educational proposition as a business man gets to work upon a mineral deposit or the development of an invention, instead of a 20 per cent. result we might clamber to an 80 per cent. or a 90 per cent. result in educational efficiency.”
With these things in mind I proceeded to lay the plans by which men and women might adopt a method which would enable them—provided they followed it thoroughly and conscientiously—to work upwards from a 20 per cent. to an 80 per cent. or even to a 100 per cent. result in mental efficiency.
That method is Pelmanism.
I need not tell you what Pelmanism has achieved.
Many of the most distinguished writers of the day have told you this for themselves.
I appreciate very highly the remarkable articles that have been written in praise of Pelmanism by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, Sir H. Rider Haggard, Mr. Max Pemberton, and others, and I value equally the thousands of letters men and women of all stations in life have written to the Pelman Institute saying how Pelmanism has helped them to:
- overcome their worries, weaknesses, and difficulties,
- has opened up for them new fields of hope, activity and achievement,
- and has enabled them, by increasing their efficiency, to secure a larger proportion of the good things in life.
Twelve months ago, on medical advice, I reluctantly retired from the direction of the Institute. Now, in response to the wishes of a large number of Pelman students and others, I have returned to carry on the work of making the value of Pelmanism even better known in the future than it has been in the past.
In times such as we are now experiencing the possession of a trained and efficient mind is more than ever a necessity to every man and woman who intends to succeed in life.
I am glad, therefore, to be in a position to announce that all arrangements have been made which will enable the work of the Pelman Institute to be continued without interruption so that everyone may have the opportunity of making this New Year a starting point for new effort, for new development, and for new achievement.
Signed W.J. ENNEVER,
Founder of the Pelman Institute
SCIENCE AND THE MIND.
Important Achievements.
INTERESTING TRIBUTES TO PELMANISM.
The New Year’s Message from the Founder of Pelmanism printed above will be read with interest by large numbers of men and women in all parts of the country.
The values of Pelmanism gripped the minds of tens of thousands of fighting men in the warfare of the trenches, and that value is even more greatly appreciated now in the day-to-day struggle of Peace.
Peace, like War, has its victories; Peace, like War, has, alas! its defects. In the competition of the Professions and in the struggle of Business, of Commerce, and of Industry, it is the trained mind:
- that averts defeat,
- that staves off disaster,
- that seizes opportunities,
- that secures promotion,
- that achieves success.
And men and women who wish to bring their minds to the highest possible pitch of trained efficiency will, therefore, greatly appreciate the news that to-day they are able to secure for themselves the scientific aid of the well-known Pelman Course.
THE AIM OF MIND-TRAINING.
It is sometimes suggested—by people who have never taken the Pelman Course—that Pelmanists pay too much attention to purely material results; that Pelmanism is merely a method which enables men and women to earn more money.
The answer to this is that the aim of Pelmanism is not merely to enable men and women to increase their incomes, but to increase the efficiency of their minds. How they then proceed to use their increased efficiency is their own concern, and naturally varies with different individuals.
A DOCTOR, for example, writes that as a result of practising Pelmanism he has more energy, can acquire fresh knowledge more rapidly and pleasantly, and can recall and use previously-acquired knowledge more easily and more extensively.
A CLERGYMAN, again, takes the Pelman Course because he hopes it will improve his preaching ability and give him greater confidence in the pulpit. And after taking the Course he writes to say that it has accomplished these things for him.
A SALESMAN writes to say that Pelmanism has improved his memory, has given him more confidence in himself, and increased his interest in work.
A MANAGER says that in his pre-Pelman days his great weakness was Self-Consciousness; now with the help of Pelmanism he has eliminated this fault and as a result has been promoted.
A GENERAL, to take a fifth example, writes:— “There is no doubt I have benefited considerably by the system. I seldom, if ever, forget anything I want to remember in everyday life, and can always put my staff right as regarding to letters and correspondence.”
Pelmanism, in short, by increasing your self-reliance and your general mental efficiency enables you “to do things better,” and thus helps you to achieve your aim in life.
In a great many cases, of course, that aim is Business or Professional Success.
In such cases Pelmanism enables you to set about your work with greater enthusiasm and to perform your duties more speedily and efficiently.
DEVELOPS CONCENTRATION.
For example, it develops Concentration and thus enables you to accomplish things in one-half the time taken by those who allow their thoughts to wander. And this is only one of the many valuable qualities Pelmanism develops in your mind.
As a result of the increased efficiency developed by Pelmanism, promotion very frequently follows. This is only as it should be. This is the reason why so many letters reach the Pelman Institute from people who have doubled their incomes and secured better positions as a result of taking the Pelman Course.
Just as Pelmanism improves a Doctor’s memory or enables a Clergyman to preach better sermons, so it is enabling thousands of men and women, engaged in almost every known profession or occupation, to do better work, and consequently to secure the rewards of that better work. Readers will find the matter more fully explained in the book “Mind and Memory,” and the reprinted supplement from “Truth.”
THE FACTORS OF MENTAL FITNESS.
Pelmanism increases the efficiency of your mind by eliminating the various weaknesses and failings that are so often present, and by developing its latent powers on a scientific plan.
Many people suffer, for example, from one or more of these failings:—
- Forgetfulness and Weakness of Will
- Mind-Wandering and Indecision
- Inertia and Indefiniteness
- Brain-Fag (‘extreme weariness’) and Shyness
- Self-Consciousness and Nervousness
- Procrastination and Lack of System
Pelmanism removes these failings and weaknesses. And at the same time it shows you how to develop in their place such fine and valuable qualities as:—
- Concentration and Judgment
- Perception and Directive Ability
- Initiative and Self-Confidence
- Forcefulness and Driving Force
- Will-Power and Originality
- Decision and Tactfulness
- Reliability and Resourcefulness
- Salesmanship and A Reliable Memory
- Organizing Power and Observation
Never was there a time in the history of the country when the need for these qualities and faculties was so pressing as it is to-day.
Never was there a time when men and women who possess these qualities could make such rapid progress in their particular profession or business as they can at the present time.
And Pelmanism will enable you to develop these qualities as many other readers have found and to develop them rapidly, easily, and without any undue expenditure of either time or money.
The end.
